Picture_134b.jpgHi, I'm Dr. Charlie! I am a PhD student in Chemistry, working in the David Tyler lab. I am an inorganic chemist. In my research, I work on making compounds that can bind nitrogen gas, and separate it from natural gas. I get to make new chemicals that have never been made before.

Some of the chemicals I work with are sensitive to air and/or water, which means that they would either fall apart or even catch fire if I held them out in the atmosphere. This means I have to handle them in a glove box, which is filled with an inert gas.

My favorite thing about my research is that a lot of my reactions involve really cool color changes. I always like mixing my chemicals and watching them change into vivid colors.
